About the Varèse CD/SACD Transport

The dCS Varèse CD/SACD Transport is a dedicated optical-disc transport designed exclusively for the dCS Varèse Music System. It plays Red Book CDs in their native 44.1 kS/s PCM format and SACDs in native DSD, without source-side upsampling or conversion to another format. A single proprietary ACTUS connection carries bit-perfect audio, asynchronous timing/clock information, and control data between the Transport and a Varèse Core or compatible Varèse Clock. Playback and system control are available through the Varèse User Interface, Varèse remote control, and Mosaic ACTUS app. The unit uses a dual-laser CD/SACD mechanism, a rigid machined-aluminium chassis with constrained-layer damping, direct mechanical mounting, and dedicated low-noise clocking intended to reduce vibration and timing error. It is manufactured in the United Kingdom and is currently presented as an available Varèse-system component; it is not documented as discontinued. Note that it is not a standalone DAC or conventional universal digital transport: operation requires integration with the Varèse system via ACTUS.
