About the Basshorn G2

The Avantgarde Acoustic Basshorn G2 is a fully active, horn-loaded bass loudspeaker module designed as the reference low-frequency system for the Trio G2 and related Avantgarde horn speakers. Each Basshorn G2 module uses two 12-inch long-excursion neodymium bass drivers (approx. 1,100 cm² total cone area) coupled to a 1,400 mm (about 55-inch) expo-spherical horn with a horn mouth area of about 8,500 cm² (roughly 9 ft²) per module. The system covers a bass frequency range of approximately 18–250 Hz and achieves very high efficiency, specified at about 104 dB sensitivity, making it capable of extremely high output with low distortion. Each module is actively driven by Avantgarde's patented ADRIC (Active Dynamic Radiation Impedance Compensation) electronics, employing dual 250-watt subwoofer amplifier channels per module (500 watts total) with 120,000 µF of power-supply capacitance to linearize the response below the horn's cutoff frequency and to compensate dynamically for the relatively small horn mouth. Multiple Basshorn G2 modules (from two up to six) can be stacked to increase effective horn mouth area and maximum bass output, allowing the system to be adapted from smaller rooms to very large high-end two-channel or multichannel installations; it is most commonly combined with Avantgarde's Trio G2 spherical horn satellites for a complete ultra high-end horn loudspeaker system.
