About the Duo

The Avantgarde Acoustic Duo is a horn loudspeaker system combining wide-band spherical horns for midrange and treble with an integrated active, reflex-loaded bass section using dual dynamic woofers in a ~45-liter enclosure and a built-in power amplifier. The horn section is extremely efficient, allowing use with low-power tube amplifiers, while the self-powered bass module handles low frequencies for high dynamics and low distortion. The horns are made from pressure-molded ABS in high-gloss finishes, mounted on a steel frame, with overall height around 1.7 m, width about 670 mm, and depth about 680 mm, and weight roughly 143 lb per speaker. Various Duo generations (e.g., Duo 2.0, Duo with SUB225CTRL, later XD/GT/SD variants) share the same core concept — very high-sensitivity spherical horns with active bass — while differing in details such as exact sensitivity rating, crossover topology, bass amplifier power, and subwoofer configuration.
