About the Duo XD

The Avantgarde Acoustic Duo XD is the current-generation horn loudspeaker system in the Duo line, combining very high efficiency with powerful, DSP-controlled active bass modules. It uses spherical ABS pressure-molded horns for both midrange and treble, with a soft mesh midrange membrane driven by an Alnico magnet and a Mylar tweeter membrane with a ferrite magnet. Each speaker integrates a subwoofer module with two 12-inch SCS-reinforced paper cone drivers using ferrite magnets, powered by a 1000 Watt Class-D amplifier (two 500 W switching stages, peak) under control of an internal DSP command station. The DSP section provides programmable active crossover, subsonic filter, level presets and other parameters, accessible via a rear control/display and remotely adjustable via LAN or USB connection from a PC/Mac, allowing precise room and bass integration. The Duo XD's mid/high section operates as an ultra-efficient horn satellite (sensitivity about 107 dB/W/m) with a nominal crossover from roughly 170 Hz upward, while the active bass section covers approximately 20–200 Hz with adjustable upper cutoff around 170 Hz. Mechanical construction includes a 30 mm MDF subwoofer cabinet mounted to a solid cast aluminum base frame with steel frame rails and four height-adjustable spike cone feet for rigid coupling to the floor. Each speaker measures approximately 1695 mm tall and 670 mm wide, with a weight of about 95 kg per speaker. The Duo XD is designed to be driven by low-power amplifiers thanks to its very high efficiency, offering the characteristic dynamics, staging precision, and effortless presentation of Avantgarde's horn technology combined with deeply controllable, high-output active bass performance.
