About the Fremont
The Escalante Design Fremont is a large, high-performance full-range loudspeaker described as a "megamonitor." It features two direct-coupled 12" bass-mid woofers in an isobaric configuration and a Scanspeak Revelator R2904 ring radiator soft-dome tweeter. The speaker cabinet is made from bamboo and measures 14" wide, 28.5" tall, and 18" deep, weighing approximately 100 lbs each. It has an unusually high voltage sensitivity of 93 dB and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms, making it very amplifier-friendly and suitable for a wide range of amplification from 1 to 1000 watts. The frequency response spans from 18 Hz to 50 kHz (+/- 3 dB), delivering deep bass extension and detailed highs. The design includes two slot ports flanking the tweeter and a carefully engineered crossover with a delicate balance between internal and external woofers, achieving a fast rise-time and excellent transient response. The Fremont is praised for its tight, tuneful bass, wide soundstage, dynamic range, and ability to deliver rock-concert realism at high volumes, though caution is advised due to its high sensitivity and power handling. The speakers come with custom stands designed to position the tweeters at ear height. The
