About the Duo Mezzo XD

The Avantgarde Acoustic Duo Mezzo XD is a high-efficiency, horn-loaded loudspeaker system that combines two large spherical horns for midrange and treble with an actively driven bass system using two 12-inch drivers and DSP-controlled amplification around 1000 W for the subwoofer section. It employs 18 Ohm Omega-type drivers with Alnico magnets, a 670 mm spherical midrange horn, Avantgarde's CDC system without passive filters in the signal path, and a 100 V CPC (PolarizationPlus-type) crossover/drive concept for optimal control and low distortion. The XD implementation adds built-in DSP equalization for the bass, allowing precise room-tailored low-frequency alignment while preserving the very high system sensitivity of about 107 dB and tube-amp-friendly impedance. Designed for medium to larger listening rooms (typically from about 20 m² upwards), it is a semi-active floorstanding horn system: the mid/treble horns are driven by an external power amplifier, while the bass section is powered and equalized internally. The XD horn line, including Duo Mezzo XD, has since been superseded by Avantgarde's G3 generation of horn loudspeakers.
