About English Electric

English Electric was a British industrial manufacturer founded in 1918 following the amalgamation of several engineering firms. It specialized in industrial electric motors, transformers, and later expanded to railway locomotives, turbines, diesel engines, consumer electronics, guided missiles, military aircraft, and computers. The company played a significant role in Britain's industrial and technological development through the mid-20th century, producing landmark aircraft such as the Canberra and Lightning. In 1968, English Electric merged with GEC, ending its independent existence. In recent years, the name has been revived for specialist HiFi audio equipment, continuing its engineering legacy.
