The English Electric 8Switch is an audiophile-oriented, eight-port Gigabit Ethernet switch designed for music-streaming and networked-audio systems. It is based on an audio-grade 100/1000 Base-T Ethernet switch platform and adds a high-accuracy temperature-compensated crystal oscillator, electrical-noise isolation, EMI absorption, a machined aluminium enclosure, and resonance-damping feet. The switch is intended to connect a router or LAN to network audio components such as streamers, network players, NAS devices, and other AV equipment. The manufacturer specifies improved network-signal stability and up to 90% improved jitter performance compared with the underlying conventional switch design. It is supplied with an external medical-grade switching power adapter and a 0.75 m Chord Company C-Stream Ethernet cable. Available manufacturer and retailer information indicates that the 8Switch remains a current product; it is not documented as discontinued.
