About the VPS100
The Ypsilon VPS100 is a moving magnet tube phono preamplifier that uses passive RIAA equalization with an LCR network driven by custom-made transformers featuring amorphous cores. It employs a unique split RIAA design where the 2123 Hz pole is formed by an air-core inductor at the first gain stage, and the 50 Hz and 500 Hz poles are implemented at the output of the second gain stage. The gain stages use Siemens C3g vacuum tubes known for their reliability and lifespan of up to 10,000 hours. The power supply uses a 6CA4 tube rectifier and a choke-filtered design. The entire unit is hand-wired point-to-point with extruded and annealed silver wire, mounted on an aluminum sub-chassis for mechanical isolation and vibration resistance. The VPS100 Mk2 version introduced component-level improvements such as different input/output tubes, upgraded capacitors, and refined power supply filtering. There is also a Silver Edition (SE) version with a pure silver signal path and special silver transformers and wiring. The VPS100 is highly regarded for its natural tonality, micro and macro dynamics, and spatial imaging, placing it among the world's best phono stages.
