About the Phi Beta

The VAC Phi Beta Preamplifier is designed to deliver the highest possible sound quality. It is equipped with a line stage that functions like a small Class A1 power amplifier, capable of handling loads as low as a few hundred ohms. This is a significant departure from typical preamplifiers, which often struggle with delivering current to low impedance loads. The Phi Beta uses triode tubes exclusively in its active elements, ensuring the purest form of amplification. The absence of loop feedback and coupling capacitors contributes to its clarity and musicality. The preamp also features output transformers that allow for flexible output grounding configurations, making it suitable for both balanced and single-ended systems. Additionally, it includes an optional phono stage that uses triode tubes without feedback, providing high gain and a very low noise floor. The phono stage accommodates low output MC cartridges with high-quality matching transformers, enhancing detail and background silence. The preamp's remote volume control is implemented via a motorized mechanical device, avoiding sound degradation associated with VCAs or transistor switches. Each chassis is made from non-magnetic aluminum, and the separate power supply helps isolate the audio circuits from electromagnetic fields and vibrations.
