About the KRC-HR

The Krell KRC-HR preamplifier is designed as a high-end line control amplifier with a focus on highest resolution audio performance. It features a unique 16-bit level control volume system with over 300 discrete attenuation steps, driven by an HC11 microcontroller and dedicated software, enabling smooth and precise volume adjustment. The preamplifier uses a balanced circuit design throughout all stages and employs pure complementary class A operation with bipolar elements for stable high current and push-pull operation. It has a direct coupling configuration for excellent instantaneous power and linearity. The selector uses discrete relay switching to minimize signal path interference. The power supply is housed in a separate chassis to reduce noise and interference, connected by a nine-pin computer-style cable. The main unit circuit board is a four-layer glass-epoxy board with optimized layout to reduce interference and noise contamination. Inputs include two balanced and four single-ended inputs, with one input selectable for unity gain throughput, suitable for integration with AV processors. Outputs include both single-ended and balanced outputs active simultaneously, allowing control of two separate power amplifiers. The unit includes a wireless aluminum remote control compatible with some Krell CD players and amplifiers. The KRC-HR also features a Theater-Throughput for easy integration into home theater systems.
