About the KD-5100

The Kenwood KD-5100 is a vintage fully automatic turntable featuring a quartz PLL direct-drive system with a coreless and slotless DC servo motor, ensuring stable and precise speed control at 33 1/3 and 45 rpm. Manufactured in Japan between 1980 and 1982, it incorporates a microprocessor-controlled tonearm with a digital optical sensor system for smooth, accurate operation. The turntable has a 316 mm aluminum alloy die-cast platter weighing 1.5 kg with a high moment of inertia (330 kg/cm²) to reduce speed fluctuations. The straight tonearm is static balance type with an effective length of 225 mm, adjustable tracking force from 0 to 3 grams, and supports cartridges weighing 4 to 9 grams. Additional features include anti-skating, oil-damped cueing with LED indicator, illuminated quartz lock indicator, and optional remote control (RC-500). The cabinet is constructed with an anti-resonance base made from polyester resin and glass fibers for vibration reduction. Dimensions are 470 x 142 x 407 mm, and it weighs 9 kg. Originally priced around 900 Deutsche Marks in Japan.
