The Wyred 4 Sound Sonos Connect-Modified is a Sonos CONNECT network-audio player fitted with Wyred 4 Sound’s internal digital-output upgrade. The modification intercepts the Sonos unit’s I²S digital signal before its stock Cirrus Logic DAC/clock section, then sample-rate converts and reclocks it for delivery to an external DAC as low-jitter S/PDIF. It is intended for a high-end system using an outboard DAC; the stock analogue-output circuitry is left unchanged, so the benefit applies to the digital outputs rather than the analogue RCA outputs. The upgraded signal is available through coaxial S/PDIF and optical Toslink, with output sample rate factory configurable at 44.1, 48, 88.2 or 96 kHz; Wyred 4 Sound recommended 96 kHz, subject to DAC compatibility. The underlying Sonos CONNECT platform itself natively handles up to 16-bit/44.1 kHz and 16-bit/48 kHz music, rather than native high-resolution playback.
