About the Type C IV
The Snell Type C IV is a large ported floorstanding speaker system designed with influence from the National Research Council (NRC) of Canada, emphasizing flat amplitude response, wide dispersion, and smooth off-axis response. It features a four-driver configuration: a 10" woofer, 5" midrange, 1" metal-dome front tweeter, and a ¾" rear-firing dome tweeter that can be switched off. The crossover frequencies are at 275Hz and 2.7kHz with 24dB/octave slopes. The rear tweeter compensates for the front tweeter's increasing directionality at high frequencies, enhancing the soundstage width and depth. The enclosure is 46" tall, 14.5" wide, and 11.75" deep, finished in matched grain oak or walnut veneers or black veneer, with a removable grille designed to minimize diffraction. Sensitivity is approximately 88.5dB at 1W/1m, nominal impedance is 8 ohms, and it is suitable for amplifiers rated from 20W to 250W per channel. The speakers are known for tonal accuracy, natural bass, and a spacious treble response, especially when placed with adequate room and distance from walls. Originally
