About the Nucleus Reference 3.1
The Anthony Gallo Acoustics Nucleus Reference 3.1 is a three-way floorstanding loudspeaker known for its innovative design that minimizes crossover components for the midrange and tweeter, resulting in pure, integrated sound reproduction from 34 Hz to 35 kHz. It features a 10-inch long-throw dual voice-coil carbon fiber woofer acoustically loaded into a cast aluminum enclosure, dual 4-inch carbon fiber midrange drivers housed in spherical enclosures, and a CDT tweeter with 300° dispersion operating from 3 kHz to 35 kHz. The woofer has a low pass filter set at 125 Hz, while the midrange and tweeter operate crossover-less, enhancing transient response and reducing coloration. The speaker has a sensitivity of 88 dB/W/m, impedance of 4 to 8 ohms on the top terminals and 4 ohms on the lower terminals (for the second voice coil), and power handling of 350 watts RMS. Dimensions are 36.25" high, 8" wide, and 14" deep, with a weight of 47 pounds. Optional bases in cherry or natural maple are available, and finishes include black on black or black on stainless with a black base. The design includes a smart acoustically transparent grill cage. The second voice coil can be powered separately with the optional Gallo S.A. bass amplifier to extend bass response down to 22 Hz. The Reference 3.1 is praised for its dynamic impact, wide soundstage, and ability to deliver reference-class performance in a modest-sized room and budget.
