About the Aquilar
The Acoustical Systems Aquilar tonearm is a high-end analog audio component designed for audiophiles seeking exceptional vinyl playback. It features a dual-pivot bearing system with precision-crafted sapphire bearings that provide ultra-low friction and smooth movement, enabling precise groove tracking and minimal distortion. The arm uses a hybrid construction combining a carbon fiber armtube with brass and aluminum components to achieve optimal rigidity and resonance damping while maintaining low mass. It offers adjustable effective mass to optimize performance with various cartridge types, precision vertical tracking angle (VTA) adjustment for ideal stylus positioning, and high-quality internal wiring made of aged pure silver strands for minimal signal loss. The tonearm supports a wide range of cartridge weights (5.2 to 30 g) and includes fine adjustments for azimuth, offset angle, overhang, stylus rake angle, and bearing leveling. Its design is based on the UNI-DIN geometry and includes a non-resonant tungsten carbide counterweight and non-touch magnetic anti-skating. The Aquilar is praised for combining the sonic virtues of uni-pivot and gimbal pivot arms, delivering dynamic, lifelike sound with a well-defined soundstage and precise instrument imaging. It is compatible with high-end turntables and cartridges, offering a premium analog listening experience.
