About the WPP 200C
The Wright Sound WPP 200C is a tube phono preamplifier designed to enhance vinyl playback with exceptional sound quality. It uses a total of four tubes in the preamp section: two 12AX7/ECC83 and two 5963/12AU7A/ECC82 tubes. The separate power supply is also tubed, employing one 6EM7/6GL7 (or 6FM7/6FY7) and one 6X4/6202 tube. The preamp features RIAA standard equalization accurate within 1.0 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. It has an input impedance of 47 kilohms shunted by 100 pF and an output impedance of 2 kilohms nominal, capable of driving loads down to 600 ohms with minimal loss. The output level is 2 volts peak-to-peak when used with MM or high output MC cartridges. For very low output MC cartridges, a separate step-up transformer is available. The unit is built with hand point-to-point wiring and includes two independent level controls for cartridge matching. The preamp chassis is clear-coated copper, providing a copper-clad ground plane to minimize hum and offering a distinctive appearance. The power supply is housed separately in a black powder-coated enclosure and connects to the preamp via a four-conductor umbilical cable. Build quality is excellent, with a simple, sleek design emphasizing function and exposed tubes. The WPP 200C is highly regarded for its neutral, clean, dynamic, and detailed sound with a very low noise floor and excellent focus, making it suitable for high-resolution vinyl playback.
