About the Trio KP-7070
The Trio KP-7070, also known as the Kenwood KD-650, is a legendary direct-drive turntable released in Japan in 1979. It features a quartz PLL direct drive system with a 20-pole 30-slot DC motor, providing stable and precise platter rotation. The KP-7070 is notable for its heavy multi-material plinth (wooden version with concrete inside) which reduces distortion. It has a static balance S-shaped tonearm with on-the-fly vertical tracking angle (VTA) adjustment, and supports cartridge weights from 2 to 12 grams. The turntable offers excellent technical performance including wow and flutter of 0.022% WRMS, signal-to-noise ratio of 62dB (JIS) / 83dB (DIN-B), and rotational speed deviation within ±0.002%. It operates on 100 VAC power and weighs approximately 15.5 kg. The KP-7070 is highly regarded by audiophiles as one of the best turntables ever made, combining precise engineering with superb sound quality.
