About the 6000X
The Tandberg 6000X is a high-fidelity, fully transistorized stereo reel-to-reel tape recorder produced between 1970 and 1974 in Norway. It features separate heads for recording, playback, erase, and bias, employing the Tandberg Cross-Field technique for improved frequency response and signal-to-noise ratio. The deck supports 1/4 inch tape on reels up to 7 inches, with tape speeds of 1 7/8, 3 3/4, and 7 1/2 ips. It includes two moving coil meters for recording and playback level indication, a record level limiter to prevent distortion, and mixing capabilities for microphone, line, and radio inputs. Additional features include sound-on-sound, echo effects, illuminated four-digit revolution counter, automatic end-stop, pause button, and remote control start/stop. The unit is designed for use with separate Hi-Fi amplifiers and is available in teak or rosewood cabinets. Dimensions are approximately 15.5 x 12.5 x 6.5 inches, weighing about 20-21 lbs. Frequency response reaches up to 20 kHz at 7 1/2 ips, with a signal-to-noise ratio around 58-62 dB and total harmonic distortion below 0.5%.
