About the CD MAXX
The Superphon CD MAXX preamplifier is a solid-state line stage preamp designed by Stan Warren, known for its zero gain, zero feedback, and direct-coupled high slew rate impedance converter architecture. It features a dual mono volume control, MOSFET devices, shunt regulation, and acrylic construction with oak side panels. The circuit is nearly identical to the line input section of the highly regarded Revelation II preamp but without a phono stage. It uses high-quality components including gold-plated OFC copper RCA connectors and a substantial 225-watt power transformer. The design emphasizes clarity, neutrality, and low distortion, making it a cult favorite among audiophiles. Dimensions are approximately 11 inches wide, 3 inches high, and 8.25 inches deep. It was originally released around 1988-1989 and remains sought after on the used market for its sound quality and build.
