About the Sound Lab A-3PX
The Sound Lab A-3PX is a mid-sized version of the famous A series electrostatic speakers by Sound-Lab, featuring an upgraded PX design. It is a full-range electrostatic dipole speaker system with a faceted curved diaphragm composed of multiple small, vertically rectangular flat panels arranged in a 90-degree arc. This design allows controlled resonance to compensate for low-frequency rolloff typical in dipole speakers, achieving a frequency response spanning from 32Hz to 22kHz ±2dB without the need for a dynamic woofer. The speaker has a sensitivity of 88dB/W/m and a nominal impedance of 6 ohms (minimum 4 ohms), requiring a recommended minimum amplifier power of 100W and capable of handling up to 450W input power. It weighs approximately 145 lbs and features a visually attractive walnut trim with a horizontally ribbed black grille cloth. The A-3PX is known for its natural timbre, tonal balance, and excellent articulation, with a radiation pattern that preserves consistent dispersion across the frequency range. It is considered demanding on amplification but delivers a life-sized soundstage and detailed musical presentation. The speakers are equipped with castors for easier movement despite their weight. The A-3PX is no longer in production but remains highly regarded among audiophiles for its unique electrostatic technology and sound quality.
