About the D2

The Soulnote D-2 is a high-end digital-to-analog converter designed around a fully symmetrical, discrete, non-negative-feedback analog output stage. It uses four ESS Technology ES9038PRO DAC chips—two per channel in a differential configuration—and supports both conventional FIR oversampling and NOS (non-oversampling) operation. A low-jitter clock system based on the Texas Instruments LMX2594 RF synthesizer is used, with provision for a 10 MHz external reference clock. Digital connectivity includes USB Audio, two S/PDIF coaxial inputs, and two AES/EBU inputs. Analog outputs are provided simultaneously on balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA connectors. The D-2 supports high-resolution PCM up to 32-bit/768 kHz and USB DSD up to 22.6 MHz, equivalent to DSD512. It has no wireless, network-streaming, headphone-amplifier, or volume-control functionality. Specifications can vary slightly by regional voltage and by later D-2 Ver.2 revision; the data below primarily describes the original D-2.
