About the Type A
The Snell Type A is a three-way dynamic, acoustic-suspension loudspeaker designed and hand-built by Snell Acoustics starting in 1978. It features a 10" cone woofer, 4" midrange driver, 1" soft-dome tweeter, and a rear-firing supertweeter (in the Type A/III variant). The enclosure design is unconventional, with a curved front panel to minimize diffraction and improve stereo imaging. The system consists of two separate enclosures stacked vertically, allowing for bi-amping. The speakers are known for their exceptional soundstage with height and depth, uncolored and pure music reproduction, and excellent bass extension. They were hand-matched and tuned by Peter Snell himself, ensuring high quality and performance. The Type A has a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, sensitivity of 86 dB/W/m, and frequency response from 24 Hz to 26 kHz ±3 dB (Type A/III). Dimensions are approximately 46.5" H x 24" W x 13" D, weighing 97 lbs per speaker. Originally These speakers are no longer manufactured but remain highly regarded by audiophiles for their musicality and build quality.
