About the IB2i

The PMC IB2i is a three-way, high-resolution reference monitor and large stand-mount loudspeaker designed for professional studios and demanding audiophile systems. It uses a 10-inch (250mm) PMC carbon fibre/Nomex flat-piston bass driver working into an approximately 8-foot Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) for low-distortion, extended bass response to 25Hz. Midrange is handled by PMC's 75mm (3-inch) soft-dome mid driver, with high frequencies reproduced by a 27mm (1.1-inch) SONOLEX fabric soft-dome tweeter, ferrofluid-cooled for power handling and stability. The crossover employs 24dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley slopes at 380Hz and 3.8kHz, maintaining phase coherence and seamless integration between drivers. Key specifications include a sensitivity of 89dB (1W/1m), nominal impedance of 4 ohms, usable frequency response of 25Hz to 25kHz, and recommended amplifier power from roughly 180W to 900W per channel. The cabinet measures about 29.1 inches H x 13.0 inches W x 18.3 inches D and weighs around 41kg (90lbs), with three pairs of rear binding posts to allow tri-wiring or tri-amping. Known for its neutral, studio-grade voicing with excellent imaging, speed, and bass resolution, the IB2i combines the scale and bass authority of a floorstander with the form factor of a large stand-mount. Finish options have included Cherry and studio-style Black Ash, and the model is discontinued but remains highly respected on the used market.
