About the SX8000

The Micro Seiki SX-8000 was the top-of-the-range turntable produced by Micro Seiki between 1981 and 1990. It features heavyweight construction with a total weight of 63 kg, an air bearing system, and a vacuum platter designed to hold records firmly in place during playback. The turntable supports three speeds: 33 1/3, 45, and 78 rpm, with a speed variation of ±4%. It uses a belt drive system and is capable of accommodating two tonearms. The motor unit used is the RY-5500, an 8-pole hysteresis synchronous motor with a constant-voltage power supply and electronic speed switching for 33 1/3 and 45 rpm, with manual pulley change for 78 rpm. The SX-8000 is highly regarded for its precision and build quality, making it a classic in high fidelity analog playback. An updated version, the SX-8000 II, was introduced later with improvements including a stainless steel platter weighing 28 kg and a diecast zinc frame weighing 35 kg, maintaining the total weight at 63 kg. The SX-8000 series is no longer manufactured but remains a sought-after vintage audiophile turntable.
