About the RY-5500 II Motor Drive Unit
The Micro Seiki RY-5500 (also referenced as RY-5500 II in some contexts) is a premium motor unit manufactured from 1979-1985 for use with the RX-5000 platter unit. It employs a string drive system (or belt in some configurations) with a frequency generator servo direct current motor providing stable speeds of 33 1/3 rpm (666 rpm motor speed) and 45 rpm (900 rpm motor speed), adjustable by ±6%. Power requirements are AC 100/120/220V 50/60Hz with 12W consumption. Built for high-end vinyl playback, it contributes to excellent speed stability (<0.02% WRMS) and low rumble (>83 dB when paired with RX-5000). The unit features a robust construction for vibration-free operation and is no longer in production.
