The McCormack Audio MAP-1 is a line-level, all-analog multichannel preamplifier designed to handle two six-channel sources plus stereo sources without internal digital processing. It was aimed at high-resolution multichannel formats such as DVD-A and SACD, and it also includes McCormack’s proprietary ARM (Ambience Retrieval Mode) for synthesizing surround from stereo material. Published reviews describe it as a multichannel preamp rather than a surround processor, with no HDMI, no onboard DAC, and no bass management.
