About the MG-2.6R

The Magnepan MG-2.6R is a two-way floorstanding planar magnetic loudspeaker featuring a 40-inch long true ribbon tweeter (1/4-inch wide corrugated aluminum foil, 2.5µm thick) and a large Magneplanar midrange/woofer panel (approximately 58" x 10.5", 609 in² area) with wire conductors bonded to a Mylar diaphragm driven by rear-mounted bar magnets. The crossover operates at approximately 1kHz with second-order high-pass for the tweeter (inverted polarity) and third-order low-pass for the woofer/midrange, using air-core inductors, plastic-film capacitors, and a non-polarized electrolytic capacitor. It offers a warmer tonal balance and higher sensitivity than its predecessor MG-2.5/R. The design requires careful room positioning due to its dipole radiation pattern. Input terminals are 4mm sockets with a shorting bar option for ribbon attenuation and a 2.5A fuse for tweeter protection. Production spanned the early 1990s, and it is no longer manufactured.
