The Proceed CDP is a high-end CD player from Madrigal Audio Laboratories, known for its exceptional build quality and sound performance. It features a unique nearly square grey cabinet design with a minimalist front panel. Internally, it uses a Philips CDM12 industrial CD-ROM transport mechanism and dual Burr Brown PCM58P 18-bit DACs in a fully dual-mono configuration. The digital decoding section includes the Philips SAA7210 decoder chip and an 8x oversampling digital filter, with HDCD processing for enhanced audio quality. Outputs include balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analog outputs, as well as coaxial S/PDIF digital output. The player can also accept digital inputs (coaxial and optical) to feed its internal DAC, allowing it to function as a digital preamp. The power supply is elaborate, with separate taps for digital and analog circuits and careful grounding to minimize noise. The player is praised for its low distortion, high dynamic range, and excellent signal-to-noise ratio.
