About the Helikon

The Lyra Helikon is Jonathan Carr's fourth generation moving coil cartridge featuring twin disc magnets and a design that eliminates as much conductive material as possible from the vicinity of the generator and gap, reducing interference and improving sound clarity. It uses a rigid aircraft-grade alloy for the main structure, with a mechanically connected cantilever assembly anchored securely for optimal energy transfer and alignment. Each cartridge is hand-assembled and voiced by Yoshinori Mishima to ensure consistent, exuberant sound full of life and energy. The Helikon has a strong fan base worldwide with close to 5000 units in use. It outputs 0.5 mV with a low 5.5 ohm impedance, making it compatible with most moving coil phono stages including tube stages. The cartridge weighs approximately 8.3 grams and has a recommended tracking force of 1.6 to 1.75 grams. Its frequency response ranges from 10 Hz to 50 kHz with channel separation of 35 dB or better, and it features a solid boron rod cantilever with a line contact stylus (3x30 micrometers profile).
