About the La Platine Magnum
The La Platine Magnum by J.C. Verdier is a flagship analog turntable designed with the principle of using highly oversized parts for ultimate performance. It features a 500 mm diameter platter weighing 60 kg that floats without mechanical contact, supported by a hydraulic pump providing 10 bars of oil pressure to sustain and lubricate the platter. The base is made of pure granite, and the turntable includes three motors weighing nearly 30 kg total, along with arm-rests of unsurpassable rigidity. The platter is supported by a 30 mm diameter hardened, nitrided, polished steel spindle with micron-level precision. Weighing approximately 400 kg, it is one of the heaviest turntables available, with all mass dedicated to musical performance rather than ornamentation. The hydraulic pump is housed separately and sound insulated, driven by an 8-pole induction motor running at 60 RPM with a special 4 Hz frequency generator for silent operation. The turntable can accommodate up to three tonearms and arm-rests. This design achieves near-theoretical ideals in speed regularity, noise, and vibration absence, making it a highly regarded choice among audiophiles seeking the best analog playback experience.
