About the IRS Epsilon
Introduced around 1995, the Infinity IRS Epsilon is a four-way, five-driver loudspeaker system that includes a 12-inch Injection Molded Graphite (IMG) woofer with servo control, a planar-magnetic lower midrange (L-EMIM), a midrange (EMIM), and two planar-magnetic tweeters (EMIT), one positioned on the back for enhanced dispersion. The system requires bi-amplification with separate amplifiers for the woofer and mid/high frequency sections, supported by a dedicated Servo Control Unit (SCU) that manages the woofer's active servo feedback for improved bass accuracy and extension. It offers a frequency response from approximately 22 Hz to 42 kHz with crossover points at 150 Hz, 500 Hz, and 3 kHz. The cabinet is substantial and well-built, weighing about 93 kg (205 lbs) per speaker, with dimensions roughly 152 cm high, 47 cm wide, and 41 cm deep. Sensitivity is around 86-87 dB/W/m with a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, and it is recommended to use amplifiers delivering between 150 and 500 watts per channel. The Epsilon was designed to deliver extremely low distortion, wide dynamic range, and faithful reproduction of the original performance, making it a flagship model in Infinity's IRS series. The system includes adjustable level controls for the planar drivers and requires careful setup, including correct amplifier polarity for the servo woofer system.
