About the Sapphire

The Hovland Sapphire is a dual-mono tube power amplifier from the now-defunct Hovland Company, featuring a custom overbuilt power transformer with separate windings for each channel. It uses two 12AU7 and four EL34 tubes, producing 40 watts per channel into 8 ohms in stereo mode (16dBW) or 80 watts (19dBW) when bridged to mono. Renowned for its gorgeous aesthetics that draw attention even when off, it offers excellent sonic performance with low distortion and wide frequency response. Often paired with the HB-100 preamplifier, it was part of Hovland's high-quality lineup before the company ceased operations years ago.
