About the Point One
The H.J. Leak Point One Stereo is a stereo pre-amplifier produced circa 1958, intended primarily for use with the Leak Stereo 20 or Stereo 50 power amplifiers, or any combination of two Leak monaural power amplifiers. It features four EF86 valves (two per channel) and employs the Baxandall feedback tone control circuit, allowing continuous boost and cut control rather than stepped switches. It does not include variable slope high frequency filtering. The design includes two gain stages with shunt feedback: the first for equalisation and the second for tone control. This pre-amplifier is highly regarded for its comprehensive coverage of stereo tape, disc, radio, and monaural amplification needs, delivering high performance consistent with Leak's tradition. It weighs approximately 3 kg and measures 29.5 x 16 x 11.5 cm. The unit requires a Leak power amplifier and its cable to operate.
