The Gryphon Mephisto Solo is a single-channel (mono) power amplifier designed for the most demanding audiophiles. It features a dual mono configuration with 40 high-current bipolar output transistors per channel and custom-designed Holmgren transformers with extensive filtering capacity for high pulse current. The amplifier delivers 200 Watts RMS into 8 Ohms, 1600 Watts into 1 Ohm, and a peak output of 9000 Watts into 1/4 Ohm, all in pure Class A operation. It employs zero global negative feedback to preserve dynamic demands and achieve exceptional bandwidth beyond 350 kHz. The power supply is fully regulated and filtered to remove mains noise and voltage spikes, enhancing focus, transient crispness, and soundstage depth. The Mephisto Solo uses only balanced inputs (XLR) and features a microprocessor-controlled, non-invasive smart protection system. It has a rigid mechanical structure, user-programmable Green Class A bias, DC servo coupling, and no output relays. The amplifier is built with the finest components including high-speed Zetex surface mount transistors and Toshiba pre-driver transistors, and it has a massive 500,000 microFarad power capacitor bank per channel. The unit weighs 108 kg and measures 52 x 34 x 71 cm per chassis, with two chassis required for operation.
