The Grado Prestige Gold is a moving-iron phono cartridge selected from the Silver production run, meeting higher test specifications with approximately 5% of units qualifying as Gold models. It features a four-piece Optimized Transmission Line (OTL) cantilever design, ultra-high purity long crystal oxygen-free copper wire coils, and a specially designed elliptical diamond stylus mounted on a brass bushing. This design reduces resonance and distortion, resulting in improved soundstage depth, detail, and quieter record playback. The cartridge offers a frequency response extending to 60 kHz, an output of 5 mV, and a recommended tracking force of 1.5 grams. It is hand-built in Brooklyn, NY, and is praised for its lively, detailed sound with a smooth treble and natural midrange, making it suitable for vinyl enthusiasts seeking a warm, engaging listening experience. The cartridge is unshielded, so it may pick up electromagnetic hum depending on turntable setup, and it favors light tonearms for optimal performance. All styli in the Prestige series are user replaceable.
