About the FM-100-B
The Fisher FM-100-B is a high-performance FM stereo tuner manufactured in the USA from 1961 to 1964. It features a 'Golden Cascode' front end with an RF amplifier and a five-stage IF strip, delivering excellent stereo reception and decoding. The tuner uses 12 tubes and 13 diodes in a superheterodyne design with double/triple conversion and an IF of 10.7 MHz. It supports the FM broadcast band (88-108 MHz) and includes features such as muting and stereo indicator lamps. The unit is housed in a silver chassis with an optional walnut wooden case, measuring 385 x 123 x 300 mm and weighing 5.4 kg. It originally retailed for approximately 1,680 DM. The FM-100-B is highly regarded for its sound quality and reliability, often restored with modern components like silicon bridge rectifiers and LED lamps to maintain performance. It remains a sought-after classic tuner with a reputation for lush, full FM stereo sound that rivals modern sources.
