About the 30a
The Fisher 30a tube monoblocks are vintage amplifiers made in New York in the late 1950s, conservatively rated at 12 watts output each. They feature less than 1% total harmonic distortion (THD) and approximately 97dB signal-to-noise ratio, delivering excellent sound quality. These amplifiers were often used in single chassis stereo configurations or as mono blocks during the era of mono records and radio. The amps have robust stamped steel casework and large power supply transformers, contributing to their performance and durability. The set has been fully restored by a tube amp expert, including replacement of EL84 output tubes with NOS Tung-Sol and GE tubes, new coupling capacitors, bias adjustment, and installation of gold-plated input jacks. Bench tests confirm maximum output of 12 watts at less than 1% THD, remarkable for equipment over 65 years old. The physical condition shows some patina and marks consistent with their age, but they remain very presentable and highly regarded for their sound quality and vintage American engineering.
