About the Ion PowerDAC
The Exogal Ion PowerDAC is a novel and forward-thinking integrated amplifier and DAC solution that combines a high-performance digital-to-analog converter with a proprietary switching power amplifier. It is designed to be used exclusively with the Exogal Comet DAC/preamp via the proprietary Exonet HDMI interface, which transmits digital audio and control signals. The Ion delivers 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms, with peak power of 150 watts and remains stable down to 2 ohms. It features a frequency response of 5Hz to 22kHz, total harmonic distortion of 0.03% at 1 watt into 4 ohms, and a damping factor greater than 100 into 4 ohms. The amplifier outputs through gold-plated 5-way binding posts and accepts only digital input from the Comet via HDMI (Exonet). The Ion is housed in a compact chassis measuring 47.6 x 190 x 292 mm and weighs approximately 4.08 kg. It includes trigger sockets, a USB control connector, and a power inlet. The Ion PowerDAC is praised for its tonal neutrality, strong sound quality, and integration convenience, though its remote control and display are considered basic. An optional HyperDrive power supply upgrade is available, enhancing bass performance and overall power delivery. The Ion is no longer sold separately but remains a significant product in Exogal's lineup as a dedicated amplifier companion to the Comet DAC.
