About the Skala Mono
The Edison Skala Mono cartridge is a specialized moving coil cartridge optimized for mono record playback. It features a medium weight and medium compliance design with low impedance, ensuring excellent tracking and sound reproduction. The cartridge uses an ultra low-mass contact stylus and high-purity copper coils on a chemically purified iron former, delivering a low output voltage of approximately 0.5mV at 5cm/sec. It offers a wide frequency response from 10Hz to 50kHz and a channel separation of 35dB or better at 1kHz. The cartridge body is constructed from a two-piece composite structure designed to control resonances, with a phosphor bronze vertical pillar and a high-loss polymer horizontal body. It weighs about 9 grams without the stylus cover and recommends a tracking force between 1.65 and 1.75 grams. The Skala Mono is suitable for use with high-quality pivoted or linear tonearms with adjustable anti-skating and preferably VTA adjustment. It is designed to provide a musical bloom, dynamic range, and realism with very low groove noise, making it a refined choice for mono vinyl enthusiasts.
