About the SC-IVa
The Dunlavy Audio Labs SC-IVa is a high-end, three-way dynamic loudspeaker designed for audiophile and professional use. It features a symmetrical vertical array of five drivers: one 1" composite textile-dome tweeter, two 5.5" paper-cone midrange drivers, and two 10" long-throw paper-cone woofers with carbon/paper/fiber cones sourced from ScanSpeak, known for their powerful magnetic structure. The crossover is a first-order design, optimized for phase coherence and time alignment, resulting in excellent impulse and step responses. The speaker is biwire and biamp capable, with a frequency response of 25Hz to 20kHz (±1.5dB), and a -3dB point at 20Hz anechoic. Sensitivity is rated at 92dB/W/m, with a nominal impedance of 5 ohms (minimum 3 ohms, maximum 7.5 ohms). Recommended amplifier power is at least 50 watts into 8 ohms. The cabinet is heavily braced, made from 1" thick MDF, filled with foam for overdamping the woofers to produce realistic bass, and features extensive felt treatment around the tweeter and midrange drivers for diffraction control.
