About the SD/A-390t

The Carver SD/A-390t is a 5-disc carousel CD player with 1-bit MASH D/A conversion and 8x oversampling, designed to improve sonic definition, detail, and accuracy. It uses a 3-beam laser pickup and offers both fixed and variable line outputs (up to 1.6V rms into 100k ohms), along with a coaxial digital output for use with external DACs. The analog output stage incorporates two 6DJ8 vacuum tubes operating at conservative levels, providing low distortion, high dynamic headroom, and a warm tube character. Frequency response is specified at 20Hz to 20kHz (±0.5 dB with Soft EQ off), with a dynamic range of 94 dB, S/N ratio over 95 dB, and THD around 0.15% at 1 kHz. The player features Carver's Soft EQ / Digital Time Lens-type processing to gently correct brightness and help preserve depth and imaging, together with program, random, and repeat play functions. It weighs about 6.8 kg and measures approximately 121 x 432 x 406 mm, and was supplied with an RH-39 remote, two AA batteries, and connecting cords.
