About the 001

The Burmester 001 is a high‑end CD player with integrated DAC and full digital‑only preamplifier functionality. All digital sources, including its in‑house‑modified Philips CD transport, are upsampled via a proprietary Burmester DSP to 24‑bit/96kHz prior to D/A conversion. The analog output stage is derived from Burmester's line stages and is fully capable of driving a power amplifier directly, with output level selectable as either variable (for direct‑to‑amp use) or fixed at two different reference levels. Volume is controlled electronically in the analog domain in 60 discrete steps, with the level shown on the front display. The 001 provides multiple digital inputs (2 S/PDIF RCA, 1 AES/EBU XLR with transformer coupling, 1 optical TosLink) and digital outputs (1 S/PDIF RCA, 1 optical TosLink), along with both single‑ended and balanced analog outputs. Two selectable analog filter characteristics are available, labeled Soft for a more spatial and warm presentation, and Linear for optimally linear phase and frequency response while retaining spatial warmth. The transport mechanism is a custom‑modified, top‑loading Philips CD‑Pro mounted in a massive, resonance‑controlled chassis with a proprietary suspension system to minimize vibration. The unit includes remote control, carries a 3‑year parts‑and‑labor warranty, and measures approximately 19" W x 4.5" H x 13.5" D with a weight of about 24 lb.
