About the Big Ben 192k
The Apogee Big Ben is a standalone master clock designed to provide ultra-stable, low jitter clock signals for digital audio systems, enhancing clarity, depth, and accuracy in recording and mixing. It uses Apogee's proprietary C777 Clock Technology and Adaptive Loop Filtering (ALF) to minimize jitter and optimize clock performance. Big Ben supports a wide range of digital audio formats including AES, S/PDIF, Optical, ADAT, and Word Clock, with realtime format conversion between all formats. It features six Word Clock outputs, two AES-EBU outputs, coaxial and optical S/PDIF outputs, and optional FireWire and video sync expansion cards. The unit can lock to various external clock sources including video signals and offers a fail-safe 'SureLock' technology to maintain stable outputs if the external clock fails. It supports sample rates from 44.1 kHz up to 192 kHz, including double-wide and SMUX formats for high-resolution audio. The Big Ben is widely regarded for improving audio quality by reducing jitter and providing a central clock source for studio setups, suitable for both professional studios and audiophile playback systems.
