About the Slant 6
The Apogee Slant 6 was produced from 1994 to 1998 as a replacement for the Centaur mid-sized ribbon hybrid. It features a 6.5" dynamic cone woofer housed in a rigid, sloped back enclosure of 24 litres, combined with a 26" dipole aluminum ribbon tweeter identical to that used in the Stage model. The slanted cabinet design reduces internal standing waves, providing cleaner bass and midrange, and offers a trapezoidal rear acoustic path for smoother midrange and treble response. The ribbons have suspension control allowing louder playback with lower distortion. The crossover is seamless, assuring a wide, stable soundstage with excellent image depth. It was also available in a shielded version for home theater use. The speaker has a frequency response from 32Hz to over 25kHz, a crossover frequency at 1kHz, and a sensitivity of 83.2dB at 3 meters. It requires an amplifier power between 50W and 200W per channel (8 ohms). The cabinet measures 133.3 cm in height and 36.8 cm in width, weighing 80 lbs each. The finish available was Black Sand. The Slant 6 is known for its dynamic sound, good bass extension, and natural handling of percussion transients and dynamics, though its bass is more about speed and detail than deep power. It is no longer manufactured.
