A.R Sugden & Co. Ltd. was a British hi-fi manufacturer based in Brighouse, Yorkshire, most famous for its 'Connoisseur' line of turntables, tonearms, pickup cartridges, and related hi-fi components. Founded by Arnold Robinson Sugden, the company became well regarded from the early 1950s through the 1980s for producing innovative, high-quality yet affordable turntables, such as the Connoisseur BD1 and BD2, often sold as kits. Sugden was a pioneer in engineering fine-groove records, stereo cartridges, and lightweight tonearms. The company ceased operations in the mid-1980s following market changes and declining demand.
