About the 1300 III
The Zanden Audio 1300 Mk III phono stage offers the same 6922 valve-based audio circuit as the flagship Model 1200 Mk III, including Jensen step-up transformers and 6CA4 valve rectifiers. It supports multiple replay equalization curves including RIAA, Teldec, EMI, Columbia, and Decca, allowing precise playback of various LP recording standards. The unit features inputs for low and high impedance moving coil cartridges, with input impedances of 36 ohms and 3k ohms respectively. It provides switchable gain settings and uses a passive LCR equalization circuit for stable impedance across frequencies. The 1300 Mk III is a single-box design, more affordable than the two-box Model 1200 Mk III, It is highly regarded for its crisp, energetic sound with dynamic authority, trading some tonal warmth and dimensionality of the 1200 Mk III for a more direct presentation. The chassis is chromed and compact, typical of Zanden's design ethos.
