About the MC16

The Ypsilon Electronics MC16 Step Up Transformer is part of the MC series of moving coil step-up transformers, which use large size single C-core double coil transformers with proprietary amorphous core material. It provides a 16 times transformation ratio or 24 dB of gain, optimized to be sonically invisible and maintain a wide frequency response. The transformers are shielded with mu-metal and potted in 10mm thick soft iron nickel coated enclosures to provide immunity from outside magnetic fields and ensure quiet, noise-free performance. The MC16 is designed to work with moving coil cartridges with output levels from 0.3 to 0.4 mV and has an equivalent input impedance of 200 ohms when terminated at 47 kOhm, the standard input impedance of moving magnet phono preamps. Dimensions are 100 mm (height) by 120 mm (depth), and it weighs 4 kg. The transformer features special winding techniques to minimize inter-winding capacitance and maintain wide frequency response, making it suitable for high-fidelity audio reproduction.
