About the MC10 SUT
The Ypsilon MC-10 SUT is a high-quality moving coil step-up transformer (SUT) that amplifies the low-level signal from a moving coil cartridge to the appropriate level for a moving magnet phono preamp. It offers a 10 times transformation ratio, delivering 20 dB of gain. The transformer uses a large single C-core double coil design with a proprietary amorphous core material and special winding techniques to minimize inter-winding capacitances and maintain a wide frequency response. When terminated in 47k ohms (standard input impedance of MM phono preamps), the MC-10 presents an equivalent input impedance of 500 ohms. It features a frequency response of 8 Hz to 70 kHz (-3 dB, source impedance < 50 ohms), inductance of 80H measured at the secondary, and a maximum level at 20 Hz of +20 dBu. The unit measures 100 mm in height by 120 mm in depth and weighs approximately 4 kg. Additional loading can be applied via parallel input RCA connectors if needed. The MC-10 SUT is optimized sonically to be as transparent as possible, making it suitable for cartridges with output voltages around 0.4-0.6 mV.
