About the HS-1As
The Yamamoto HS-1As headshell is crafted from African ebony wood, known for its high specific gravity (1.4) and use in musical instruments like clarinets and oboes. This wood provides a clear, forcible sound due to its hardness and toughness. The HS-1As version features special 6N copper shell leads insulated with PTFE, which are soldered to reduce electrical contact resistance and improve tone quality. The finger hook is made of non-magnetic gold-plated bronze, suitable for MC cartridges sensitive to magnetic interference. The headshell weighs 11.2 grams (excluding screws) and measures 18 mm wide, 50 mm long, and 18 mm high. It includes three sizes of gold-plated brass mounting screws and cannot have its shell leads replaced. The design includes an elongated cartridge mounting hole to accommodate a wider range of cartridges. The finish is an eco-paint buff finish that preserves the natural wood texture and warmth, offering a natural and ear-friendly sound distinct from typical metal shells.
